4th C.R. Nodder Memorial Lecture

The 4th C.R. Nodder Memorial Lecture was held in the memory of institute’s first Director, Late C. R. Nodder on February 11, 2020 at ICAR-NINFET auditorium. The programme was started with ICAR video song. Director ICAR- NINFET, Dr. N. C. Pan welcomed the dignitaries’ with ICAR-NINFET produced ‘uttorio’. Director, also welcomed all the dignitaries present in the auditorium in his welcome address. Dr. S. Sengupta, Principal Scientist & Head MP Division briefly presented the life sketch of Late C.R.Noddar. Prof. (Dr.) Sumanta Bhattacharyya, Former Principal, Govt. College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Serampore, WB, was the chief guest of the programme. In his address, he briefly described the scientific contribution of Late C. R. Noddar in the field of Jute fibre and technology. Prof. (Dr.) Atanu Ghosh of Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, I.I.T. Bombay, India was the guest of honour of the programme. Dr Avijit Das and Dr Manik Bhowmick introduced the chief guest and the guest –of-honour respectively. He presented the memorial lecture on “Challenges for the organisations in the Changing Paradigm”. He talked about the several major and at times dramatic changes taking place in the political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal environments related to the different organisations. He also pointed out how with all these changes, organisations are finding it difficult to maintain performance and several of those are even struggling for their own survival. To the young generation he advised that it makes immense sense for bright scientists, technologists, engineers and so on to stay in their chosen field of expertise, rather than looking for a career away from science and technology just to earn a lucrative package to start one’s career with. He concluded with a ray of hope that we are in a country full of brilliant, talented people and opportunities are also plenty and with the right strategic moves by organisations and collaborative and cooperative efforts, we will be able to make a difference.

The programme was concluded with the formal vote of thank by Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, Principle Scientist, ICAR-NINFET. There was large gathering from different jute and textile teaching and research institutes and other natural fibre related organisation including industries. Ex-Scientist of ICAR-NINFET also participated in that occasion.
