Mass Media campaign and demonstration about the Accelerated Retting of Jute with NINFET-Sathi (a jute retting accelerator) @Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav

The ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology (ICAR-NINFET) organized Mass Media campaign and demonstration about the Accelerated Retting of Jute with NINFET-Sathi (a jute retting accelerator) to commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence during July 13-19, 2021. 

On this occasion extensive campaign of the Accelerated Jute retting technology has been made with the NINFET developed retting formulation.  NINFET-Sathi was distributed to1500 farmers in five jute growing districts of West Bengal involving the ICAR Institute, National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Jute Corporation of India Ltd. & Directorate of Jute Development. Local KVKs, State Departments and FPOs were involved for wide campaigning of the technology. NINFET-Sathi was distributed @ 20 kg per farmers under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP).

The retting formulations improves the fibre quality at least by one grade, hasten the retting process by reducing the retting time, increases the fibre extraction and thereby enhance the farmer income by fifteen to twenty thousand per hectare.

The programmes conducted at different districts were covered in Doordarshan, local media, newspapers and cable networks. Leaflets were distributed in all the five districts and banners were displayed at different locations for wide awareness of the technology. In tandem, the Institute organized a Campaign on Mass Tree Plantation and Awareness Programme on the Theme “Har Med Par Ped” to mark the celebrations of the ICAR’s 93rd Foundation Day on 16th July, 2021 at North 24 Parganas and Hooghly, W.B.

Dr. D B Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata visited different districts for distribution of NINFET-Sathi and applauded the farmers for their enthusiasm. All the Scientists, Technical staff wholeheartedly participated in the programme.

The Cardinal programme was held on July 19, 2021 at the Institute. Dr. R.C.Maheshwari, Former ADG, ICAR & Chief Guest of the Cardinal programme hailed the contribution of NINFET during its long 8 decades of journey.

Dr. S.N.Jha, ADG (PE), ICAR congratulated the Team-NINFET for wholehearted effort for reaching the technology to the farmers.

Cmde. A.K.Jolly, MD, Jute Corporation of India emphasized the need of the jute farmers for a right technology and believed the NINFET-Sathi can meet the need of the farmers.

Dr. Mahadev Datta, Jt. Director, National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India & Mr. J.Das, Jt. Director, Directorate of Jute Development, Govt. of India highlighted the Institute’s role in providing the technological backstopping in natural processing and value addition.

Farmers from different districts rendered their feedback through virtual mode.

The Cardinal programme was ended with a Webinar on the topic “Processing and value addition in the context of Accelerated Retting of Jute”. Dr. G.Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Dr. U.Badegaonkar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIAE & Dr. D.B.Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET deliberated on the theme.

Dr. Biplab Saha, Principal Scientist& Head (Acting), Quality Evaluation & Improvement Division acted as the Convener of the Cardinal programme.

The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
