ICAR-NINFET Organized the One-Day Workshop on Importance of Handloom in The Society and Economy

ICAR-NINFET has organized one day workshop on ‘Importance of Handloom in Our Society and Economy’-cum- Exhibition of Handloom products at Kolkata on the occasion of National Handloom Day on August 7, 2021.

The prime moto of the workshop was to support and encourage the handloom weavers / workers and to provide impetus to the handloom industry. Twenty-five weavers from different organizations like Fulia Women & Youth Welfare Society, Nadia; Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sargachi, Murshidabad and Laxmi Ganesh Textiles, Nadia were participated in the programme. Distinguished Handloom weavers including two women were felicitated in the programme.          

Dr. S. A. Wani, Director Research, SKUAST, Srinagar marked his presence as the Chief Guest and emphasised the importance of hand spinning and handloom weaving of pashmina shawl.  

In his address Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET enlightened the role of handloom in the country’s social development and suggested to draw the roadmap for development in this sector. 

Dr. Soumen Mopdar, Officer in Charge, Regional Office, Textile Committee, Dr. A. N. Roy, Head, ToT Division, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR- CSWRI, Dr. Sanchita Biswas, Scientist and Dr. S. B. Roy, In-Charge PME Cell addressed the participants. A leaflet on handloom fabric and products was released on this occasion.

All the scientists, Head of Divisions, Administrative and Finance Sectional in Charges were present in the programme physically and other staff members attended the programme through virtual mode. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. S. Debnath, Principal Scientist, MP Division, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata.
