ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata celebrates its 84th Foundation Day

The ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata celebrated its 84th Foundation Day today.

Dr S.K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management & Agricultural Engineering), ICAR and Chief Guest of the programme applauded the Institute for its achievements in the area of natural fibres. He paid his sacred tributes to the founding fathers for their great contribution in the field of natural fibres and entrusted the present generation for the amalgamation of contemporary knowledge in fibre science with automation technology, sensor-based technology and nanotechnology.

In his foundation day lecture, Dr S.N. Jha, Assistant Director General (PE) congratulated the staff members of the Institute on its 84th Foundation Day and hailed for the consistent achievements of the institute over the years.

Earlier in his welcome address Dr D.B. Shakyawar, Director briefed about the journey of the institute and its footprint impact of the livelihood of innumerable number of farmers and the stakeholders. He congratulated the staff members for their huge contribution and motivated with pragmatic thought for building a new genre in the years to come.

Dr Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, congratulated all the staff members of ICAR-NINFET and emphasized upon the collaborative research to yield the best results through a practical synergy. 

Dr. A. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner enunciated the application of scientific knowledge harvested by the institute over last eight decades for betterment of the farming community and stressed for the application of natural fibers in the area of biomedical science, cosmetics fields.

Dr. B.K. Behera, Professor, IIT Delhi paid his tribute to the legendary Scientist, Administrator and founder Director of the Institute Mr. C.R. Nodder, through his memorial lecture on “3D Woven Textile Structural Composites and Their Applications with Special Reference to Natural Fibre”.

Dr L.K. Nayak, Principal Scientist presented the institutional progress and accomplishments over the previous year in a very lucid manner.

The programme encompassed with release of new books, technical bulletins and training calendar for the year 2022. The office staff, farmers and the artisans were awarded for their best performances. Meritorious students and sports winners were also awarded on the occasion.

A Farmers’- Scientists interaction programme an exhibition was organized on the occasion and activities and achievements of different divisions and sections of the institute were showcased.

The ex-employees, number of jute farmers, small scale entrepreneurs, jute mill personnel’s, other central and state organization participants from different jute and textile organizations and institutes, stakeholders and 28 students from Banaras Hindu University were participated in the programme following the Covid protocol.  

Dr. B. Saha, Head, Quality Evaluation & Improvement Division and Chairman of the Organizing committee conveyed his sincere gratitude to all the participants for the successful completion of this grand event.

The celebration was ended cultural programme and exhibitions artistic performances by staff members and their family members.
