ICAR-NINFET organized Farmers’ Fair and Exhibition at Kolkata

The ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organized a Farmers’ Fair and Exhibition in Kolkata today.

Dr Shyam Narayan Jha, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Engineering), ICAR and Chief Patron applauded the Institute for organizing such a huge gathering during post-pandemic Covid situations. He hailed the institute for its untiring contribution to the nation in the field of natural fibres. Addressing to the farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs and dignitaries, he emphasized upon establishing a consortium of natural fibre-stakeholders. He further enunciated to develop “food from the fibres” which may render a most challenging task for the scientific community.

Dr. Debasis Nag, Former Director, in his Presidential address, highlighted the role of the Institute, for reaching the institute’s technology to the farmers’ front.  He paid his deep respect to the farmers, artisans and scientific communities for bridging together for uplifting the mission and vision of the Institute.

Dr Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF and Guest of Honour congratulated the team NINFET for organizing such an eventful programme. He emphasized that both that institutes working in the field of natural fibres, will work in synergy to bring a new dawn in the field of natural fibres.

Earlier, Dr D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET welcomed Dr. S.N.Jha, DDG (AE) for his maiden visit in the Institute after attaining the most coveted feat. In his welcome address, Dr. Shakyawar, briefed about the ‘farmers first’ approach for building an “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. He emphasized that the Institute is working in this dimension and invited all the farmers and artisan to make a concerted effort to establish a natural fibre dependent India in the year to come.

Dr. Alok Nath Roy, Head, Transfer of Technology Division and Convener of the Organizing committee conveyed his sincere gratitude to all the participants for the successful completion of this grand event.

Different organizations, including farmers, ICAR Institutes, KVKs, FPOs, entrepreneurs and artisans have exhibited their products in the stalls at the Institute premise.

The programme encompassed with the signing of MoUs, visiting all the stalls, the release of new books and publication of institute Newsletter and leaflets of technologies. The best stalls of the institutes and the artisans were awarded for their excellent exhibitions.

An interaction programme with the farmers, artisan and entrepreneurs with the Dignitaries and the Scientists were organized on the occasion exchanged their mutual views.

Later, Hon’ble DDG (AE) inaugurated the new ‘Training and Design Centre’, ‘SAIF&CTC’ and unveiled the newly renovated Experimental Mill. In the evening, he addressed the Institute staff and interacted with all categories of the employees of the Institute. In the evening he was also felicitated by ARSSF, ICAR-NINFET Unit and The Indian Natural Fibre Society.
