Farmers’ Fair-cum-Technology Demonstration at ICAR- NIRJAFT, Kolkata

A Farmers’ Fair-cum-Technology Demonstration was organized at ICAR-National Institute of Research on Jute & Allied Fibre Technology, Kolkata on September 28, 2018.

Dr. A.N. Roy, Director, in his welcome address, brief the farmers and farmwomen about the present scenario of Jute sector in West Bengal. He focused the role of ICAR-NIRJAFT in improvement of livelihood of jute growing farmers. He encouraged the jute growers to face the new challenges for growing quality jute.

Prof. P.K. Das, Ex-Professor, BCKV, West Bengal graced the occassion as Chief Gurest. Prof. P.K. Das in his speech told the importance of jute and its by-products. He explained about the detrimental effect of synthetic material and its use. He discussed about different technologies developed by NIRJAFT’s scientists. He told the benefits of adopting these technologies in their profession and how they help to increase their income and livelihood.

Various Jute &allied fibre, blended products and technologies developed in the Institute were exhibited to the participants through exhibits. They also visited all the divisions in batches for practical demonstration of different technologies. A quiz competition was also arranged for the participants on different areas of agriculture mainly focused on jute cultivation. 

About 120 Farmers and Farmwomen have participated in this programme from different jute growing districts of West Bengal like Murshidabad, Bardwan, Nadia, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas.
