Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav Programme Organized by ICAR-NIRJAFT, Kolkata

On 08.07.2016, Dr. N.C. Pan, Principal Scientist & Head C&BP, Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, Principal Scientist, Dr. S.C. Saha, Senior Scientist, and Dr. Utpal Sen, Chief Technical Officer discussed on prospects of Jute Diversified products specially in the area of Jute Handicrafts to fifteen rural progressive women farmers from the adopted villages of Nadia District. During the discussion the participants showed keen interest for conducting a training programme on jute handicrafts since they are already involve in such activities.

Recently, under the programme of Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) ICAR-NIRJAFT has conducted six days training program (August 08-13, 2016) with collaboration of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nadia, on ‘Jute Handicrafts’. The training started on August 8, 2016 in presence of Programme Coordinator of KVK, Nadia and some erudite personalities from ICAR-NIRJAFT, Kolkata. Fifteen women farmers from five adopted villages (Bhawanipur, Satyapole, Panchkeniya, Bansbana and Bamanpara) of Nadia District have attended this training at Bhabanipur Horticulture Development Co-operative Society Ltd., Bhabanipur, Srikrishnapur, Haringhata, Nadia, West Bengal.  The inaugural function held on 8th August 2016 in the Training Hall of Bhabanipur Horticulture Development Co-operative Society Ltd., Bhabanipur. Shri. Pintu Mondal, Secretary, Horticulture Development Co-operative Society Ltd., Bhabanipur welcomed the trainees, ICAR-NIRJAFT representatives and Programme Coordinator of KVK, Nadia. The Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session was Dr. K.K. Goswami, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nadia addressed the trainees about the importance of this training. Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer of MGMG programme and Course Director of this training, Dr. S.C. Saha, Senior Scientist and Co-Course Director of training, Dr. N.C. Pan, Head of Division, C&BP, and Dr. Utpal Sen, Chief Technical Officer of ICAR-NIRJAFT welcomed the trainees for six days training programme of ‘Jute Handicraft’. Further, this training will improve the skill and livelihood of the women trainees wherein they will learn fine, medium and course jute braids of good quality and their application in different handicraft making (floor mat, table mat, door chain, doll, etc.) from jute.

Director, ICAR-NIRJAFT in consultation with Programme Co-ordinators of different KVKs has identified 25 villages belonging to five districts viz., Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas nearby to the institute. All the villages have been allotted to respective scientists of institute for adoption and to carry out activities like conducting lecture/ meetings/ demonstrations smoothly. Dr. S. Debnath. Sr. Scientist has been given responsibility as Nodal Officer for execution of the programme.

After final selection of adopted villages following are the programmes organized:

  • Dr. N.C. Pan, Principal Scientist & Head, CBP Division, Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, Sr. Scientist, & Nodal Officer MGMG and Dr. S.C. Saha, Sr. Scientist, Visited village five adopted villages of Nadia district on 20.11.2015 and interacted with 25 progressive farmers related to prospects of MGMG programme and ICAR-NIRJAFT developed technologies.
  • Dr. A. Das. Principal Scientist, Dr. S. C. Saha, Sr. Scientist and Dr. S. Debnath, Sr. Scientist and Dr. D.P Roy, Sr. Scientist have delivered lectures on “Dry retting of jute”, “Grading of jute fibre”, “Application of jute in diversified applications”, and “Chemical retting of jute”, respectively during their programme at Babpur, Barasat, North 24 Parganas on 28.12.2015. Fifty progressive farmers from nearby villages have attended this programme.
  • Dr. N.C. Pan, Principal Scientist & Head, CBP Division, Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, Sr. Scientist, & Nodal Officer MGMG and Dr. S.C. Saha, Sr. Scientist, visited five adopted villages of Nadia district on 18.01.2016 and interacted with 30 progressive farmers. They delivered lectures on “Jute-stick particle board”, “Application of Agrotextile and its Benefits” and “Jute grading” during this programme.
  • On 8th February, 2016, Dr. L.K. Nayak, Sr. Scientist and Dr. S. Debnath, Sr. Scientist visited Howrah Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and delivered lectures on “Extraction of banana fibre and value-added products therefrom” and “Application of agrotextile in value added horticultural crops”, respectively to 24 progressive farmers of Jinghra village, Howrah.
  • On February 16, 2016, Dr. V.B. Shambhu, Sr. Scientist, Dr. S. Debnath, Sr. Scientist, Dr. D.P. Ray, Sr. Scientist and Dr. K.K. Samanta, Scientist have visited village Talpulur, South 24 Parganas and discussed about different aspects of MGMG programme and delivered lecture on “Improved power ribonner for jute”, “Jute diversified products and entrepreneurship development”, Application of bio-pesticide in agriculture” and “Application of banana sap in textile processing” respectively. Forty (40) progressive women farmers of five different women self-help group have attended this pogramme.
