Visit of Mr. R. Rajkumar, Dy. Director, IRMRA

Mr. R. Rajkumar, Dy. Director, Indian Rubber M frs. Research Association, Thane and CCPI of NAIP-II visited our Institute on 6th September, 2013. He admired our research activities and deliver seminar on the topic entitled “Application of Textiles in Rubber Industry-An Overview”. He discussed the various fibres which can be used in rubber industry for making of different products as per the end-use property requirement and application. Cotton was the initial textile material which were abundantly used with rubber to manufacture low quality performance products like bicycle tyres, conveyor boels, air and water hoses. With the need of more robust and high performance end applications, the trend shifts from natural fibre cotton to viscose and then to nylon, polyester, glass, aramid, steel etc. Nowadays polyester, aramid are exceptionally used to make heavy vehicle tyres, conveyor belts and rigid hose pipes for transporting materials. Depending on the criticality of application, blends of these synthetic fibres are also used.
