One Day Institute Industry Entrepreneur Interface 2021 at ICAR-NINFET Campus

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organized One Day Institute Industry Entrepreneur Interface 2021 on March 9th, 2021 under ABI Project at its campus. 

Main objective of this programme was to interact and showcase some potential technologies developed at the Institute with Industries, MSME Sector performers and create a platform where everyone find them in a win-win situation. It also provided the best platform for showcasing the best practices, latest technological advancements, and their implementation and impact on the industry. As ICAR-NINFET used to deal with jute and JDP industries, the stakeholders were performing very important role. 

Top Officials from Jute Mills, Scientists from the Institute and fifty Start ups and ABI Members participated in the programme and benefitted a lot.

Dr. R. C. Maheshwari, Chairman, RAC ICAR-NINFET and Former V.C., S D Agricultural University was the Chief Guest of the Programme, while Dr. A. K. Sharma, Director, Indian Jute Industries Research Association(IJIRA), and Sri. S. K. Chandra, CEO & Director (Works), Hukumchand Jute Mills graced the chair of Guest of Honour.

Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director ICAR-NINFET welcomed and addressed the participants about the programme. Dr. A. N. Roy, PI-ABI and Head Transfer of Technology Division discussed about the importance of this programme.  

Sri. S. K. Chandra, CEO & Director (Works), Hukumchand Jute Mills shared his experiences about 40 years in this industry and confirmed about the golden future of golden fibre. He also encouraged the people who are working in JDP Sector a lot and assured for the raw material supply as per their requirement. Dr. A. K. Sharma, Director, Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA) expressed his willingness for collaborative research and other activities with this Institute. In the lectured in VC Mode by Dr. R. C. Maheshwari, Chairman, RAC ICAR-NINFET and Former V.C., S D Agricultural University, complemented ICAR-NINFET for organizing such event for the betterment of the Jute industry. He urged to the organizers for communicating and disseminating the Technologies, developed so far by the Institute, to the end users effectively. 

On this occasion a book entitled “ICAR-NINFET Agri-Business Compendium” was released in the presence of eminent dignitaries. This book was a compendium of potential technologies of ICAR-NINFET that are ready for commercialization and portfolio of 20 ABI Members who have shown commendable performances after taking different training from ICAR-NINFET and created strong networks with different SHG groups in different areas of West Bengal. 

After that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA) and ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology (ICAR-NINFET) regarding R&D collaboration.

Then a presentation was made by the Scientists of the Institute regarding the potential technologies of ICAR-NINFET. At first Dr. D. P. Ray, presented about “NINFET-SATHI, a retting accelerator of Jute and Mesta” mentioning field application and profit to the farmers, followed by the presentation by Dr. Atul Sinha on “Microbial Retting of Barky Root Portion of Jute”. Dr. L. K. Nayak presented four machines, i.e., Machines for Extraction of Fibre from Flax Stalk, Device for Extraction of Fibre from Pineapple Leaves, A Double Roller Banana Pseudo-Stem Fibre Extractor and Sisal Fibre Extractor. Then Dr. Biplab Saha presented the Testing and Grading Instruments followed by Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, who described his technology related to Agro-Textile. After that Dr. S. N. Chattopadhyay presented about Bleaching and Natural Dying of Jute.  The presentation was concluded by Dr. A. N. Roy, who presented about activities of ABI-NINFET and facilities provided to MSME in Natural Fibre Sector.  

Shri Shiv Narayan Lahoti, Group President (Works), M/s The Empire Jute Co. Ltd., Kolkata delivered a brief presentation about their product profile and he showed some samples to the viewers. 

The Session was concluded with a Vote of Thanks by L. K. Nayak, Principal Scientist, ToT Division followed by and lunch and Institute visit.
