Observation of 16th Parthenium Awareness Week during 16th-22nd August, 2021 by ICAR-NINFET

The 16th Parthenium Awareness Week was observed at ICAR-NINFET during August 16-22, 2021 to grow awareness about the weed, among the staffs and public of surrounding neighborhoods.

Dr Atul Singha, Senior Scientist delivered a talk on “Parthenium menaces and remedies” and apprise about its origin, morphology, propagation, distribution in India, its impact on human beings and agricultural crops, methods of control and beneficial uses Parthenium sp.

Dr S.N. Chattopadhyay, officiating Director highlighted the consistent efforts of ICAR-NINFET to grow awareness about Parthenium sp. since last few years. He advised all the staff members to spread awareness among people about the impacts of the weed towards human health and agricultural production. 

During this weeklong programme plants of the obnoxious weed were uprooted from surrounding the buildings and herbicide was sprayed in large infested areas to destroy them inside the institute premises. Dr Biplab Saha, Head QEI Division coordinated the whole programme.
