Virtual Self-Sponsored Refresher Course on Mechanical Processing of Natural Fibres organized at ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata during September 21-25, 2021

September 21-25, 2021, Kolkata:

The ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology organized a five days virtual self- sponsored refresher course on “Mechanical Processing of Natural Fibres” during September 21-25, 2021.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Dr G Nalankilli, Director Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute, Kanpur, stressed upon the maximum use of products made from natural fibres than products from synthetic fibres. He also briefed the depraved side effect of using synthetic fibre to the human society and especially on the environment.

Dr D B Shakyawar, Director of the Institute, congratulated the participants and urged the budding Scientist, Researchers and students to get rid of the conventional way of thinking and come up with new and innovative research concepts which make our country a step forward towards the line of developed country. He motivated them to bring new & ground-breaking ideas and methods that can use the same natural fibre in a wholly different way to minimize the effect of artificial fibre in nature.

In his concluding address, the Chief Guest, Dr A Sahoo, Director, ICAR- NRC on Camel, Bikaner, emphasized the scope of animal fibre to be used as blending material with ligno-cellulosic fibres to enhance the functional characteristic of material prepared from them.

The programme was aimed at apprising and encouraging the awareness of natural fibre and its processing. This training programme covers the wide gamut of topics including recent advances in natural fibre production; extraction & processing; properties & evaluation; spinning, weaving & nonwoven; Technical textiles; and products development.

About 20 participants in the level of Assistant Professor, Scientist, Subject Matter Specialist, Research Scholars, Industry persons from different Universities, private organizations from all over the country have been participated in this programme. Faculty members from ICAR, eminent scientists, academicians, from different esteemed Universities, IIT, and Silk Board have enlightened the participants with their scientific and technical deliberations on natural fibre.

A book on “Mechanical Processing of Natural Fibre” has been released in this occasion.
