ICAR-NINFET organised Quality Improvement Programme and 8th Dr. P.B. Sarkar Memorial Lecture on “Sustainable Solutions in Textile Coloration”

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology (NINFET), Kolkata organized a three days Quality Improvement Programme on “Advances in Chemical Processing & Finishing Techniques of Natural Fibre Based Textiles” during February 24-26, 2022 in both physical mode and hybrid mode.
Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET in his inaugural address emphasized about the importance of natural fibres and its use in the national and global level. He also highlighted the different R&D activities in the area of chemical processing of natural fibre and its biomass that has been carried out by the institute.
8th Dr. P. B. Sarkar Memorial lecture on “Sustainable solutions in textile coloration” was also an integral part of the training. Prof. (Dr.) R. V. Adivarekar, Professor in Fibre Chemistry & Dean HR, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai describes the importance of textile colouration and various approaches for sustainable solution in his memorial lecture.
In her address, Prof. (Dr.) Deepali Singhee, Principal, J. D. Birla Institute, Kolkata & Guest of Honour, pointed out the commendable research contribution of ICAR-NINFET to make over various natural fibres to sustainable and essential products.
Three days training programme was covered by twelve lectures in the areas of natural fibre properties, chemical pre-&-post treatment, colouration, functionalization, effluent treatment, coating/ lamination, and residual fibre biomass utilization.
Twenty-eight (28) participants in the position of Professor, Scientist, Faculty, Research scholar and Master student from various parts of the country participated in online and offline mode. The memorial lecture was graced by trainee participants, Dr. R.C. Maheswari Chairman, RAC & member, members of institute IMC, many dignitaries from other institutes, scientists & technical persons.
A book of papers, released by the Director and other dignitaries present in the programme. The programme was coordinated in tandem by Dr. S. N. Chattopadhyay, Principal Scientist & Head, and Dr. K. K. Samanta, Scientist of the institute.
